TO MY FAVORITE PEOPLE IN ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD-
This week, Hermana Villamar and I worked SO hard. We worked and walked and served and
talked and also did a little bit of crying but hey it was a GREAT week. We honestly don't have very many solid
people to work with so this week we contacted literally EVERY person in sight. Hermana Villamar took that to the
extreme and started contacting people that were working, talking on the
telephone, riding bikes, or even just sitting in their car with the window open.
We had so much fun laughing and
talking, despite the constant rejection. We get along super well and I just love her to death.
Our sweet friend Iris is doing great!!! Let me tell you a little bit about her
situation. She used to be atheist and had no interest whatsoever in God. One day, her mom was having problems so
they took her to the hospital and found out that she had cancer. For a long time,
life was really rough for her. She
doesn't have a father so it was just her and her sister taking care of her mom, in the
midst of studying and exams and working. Well, Iris' best friend is a member in our stake named David.
He was really supportive through the whole situation with Iris and her mom. Her mom started having some really bad
results and things were looking really bad. So sweet David offered to give her a priesthood blessing. The blessing was short but very powerful
and right when he finished the mom's blood pressure went back to normal and she
started to be a little better. Iris
said that she felt something in that moment that she never felt before. She felt gods love surge through so
powerfully that she couldn't deny it. She decided to take a chance with the Mormon church and look
at her now :") she has so much faith in God and is working towards her
baptism date!! It's
amazing what the power of the gospel can do for us. We had a great lesson with her this week about the privilege
it is to know the restored gospel and how we can receive more blessings than we
can imagine when we do our part. Heavenly Father had SO MANY blessings prepared
just waiting until we do what we're supposed to ((read the scriptures, pray, go
to church, serve, do missionary work)) and he will literally pour the blessings
onto our heads-who doesn't want
that?!!
So, for the miracle of the week- yesterday was a loooooooong
day of repeated rejection. We
probably knocked about 100 doors, talked to 300 people and only receive 1
REFERRAL ((ok welcome to the mission)) anyways, we were exhausted and it was
only 7:00. One thing I love about
being here with Hermana Villamar is that we make an effort every day to point
out a miracle we see. No matter
how hard or long the days are, we can ALWAYS find one. So, we're walking and trying to find people to talk to but it was a Sunday night so there were
hardly any people out. All of a
sudden these 2 guys in wheelchairs ride up to us and say, "hey, what
religion are you guys from." And
we say, "the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" and one of
them says, "Mormons?" And we said' "yes!!!!" ((Most people
think we are Jehovah’s witnesses so we get excited when people realize who we
are.)) And he said, "I know
nothing about Mormons, what makes you different than other religions?" Score. He told us that he had a little bit of time so we found a
bench and had a quality 1st lesson. We talked about Joseph smith and the Book of Mormon and bore
testimony of everything we know to be true. The two men were Cristobal and Ismael. Ismael didn't really talk much because
of his disability and Cristobal was a pretty firm Atheist because of all the trials he's gone
through in his life (a crazy car accident leading to having to be in a
wheelchair). The spirit was really
sweet throughout the lesson. They
even asked them to teach them again!!!! The situation is a little complicated because they live in a
rehabilitation center and can only leave their apartment so many times per
week. But we're going to try and
help them progress because everyone deserves to hear the gospel!!!! It really just goes to show that if we
work and work and work, Heavenly Father will bless us with miracles.
In other news, I have to give a talk next week in this new
ward so that'll be exciting!!!! Also,
I'm still open to any ideas you guys may have for family home evenings or
object lessons :)) PLUS, we are
having this crazy cool activity called "meet the missionaries" and we
are going to have tons of people come so that we can teach them a little bit about what we do and who we are.
It should be really fun so I'm excited!!! There will be workshops and talks and activities and skips
and spiritual lessons and the whole shebang. One part of it is a talent show and Hermana Villamar want to
do something fun/funny together so if you guys have any ideas on what I can do
with that I would so appreciate it!!!!
Thank you all for everything, I love you with ALL my heart.
Besitos,
